The meeting was convened at 7:28pm.
Public
Input on Agenda Items
Marlene Gomez and Esther Schiller of Smoke-Free Air
for Everyone gave input on drifting cigarette smoke in multi-family housing and
requested this issue be agendized for future discussion. Smoke-Free Air for Everyone will be having a
public meeting at 6:30pm on February 28th at the Santa Monica Public
Library.
Approval of
Minutes from the December 11, 2006 meeting
Carol Rosskam moved to approve the December 11, 2006
minutes. Leonard Mitchell seconded. Laura
Berland-Shane proposed that the word ‘potential’ be added and Dennis Woods
requested the addition of a sentence that reflects the Task Force decision to
submit a 2007 Greenbuild proposal.
The December 11, 2006 minutes were approved unanimously
with the changes noted. Christina Erickson abstained.
Update on
the Sustainability Advisory Team
Shannon
Parry provided the update on the Sustainability Advisory Team. The Sustainability Advisory Team is moving
forward with their plans to develop strategies to express sustainability
throughout the city of Santa Monica,
coordinate city activities to ensure consistency with the Sustainable City
Plan, and provide guidance for future sustainability efforts. They have developed a Draft Action Plan to
guide their endeavors. After discussion,
staff agreed to include a copy of the Sustainability Advisory Team’s Draft
Action Plan in the February packet.
Update on the
Community Sustainability Liaison
Shannon Parry provided the update on the Community
Sustainability Liaison. Proposals are
due for the Community Sustainability Liaison on January 18, 2007. After proposals are received, staff will
review the proposals and create a short list of finalists. The proposals
submitted by the finalists will be sent out to the Task Force’s Community
Sustainability Liaison subcommittee as well as city staff for review and
interviews will be held in February.

The
subcommittees met.
Subcommittee Reports
The
Resource Conservation, Environmental and Public Health and Economic Development
subcommittees continue to develop their work plans and define implementation
measures.
Discussion
and Recommendations Regarding Santa
Monica College
Environmental Audit
Genevieve Bertone gave a presentation detailing the
Santa Monica College Environmental Audit.
The presentation included an introduction to the program, campus goals
and sustainability indicators and some initial findings. The Task Force expressed support for the
endeavor.
Liaison
Updates
Sandy Grant provided an update on the work of the
Santa Monica High School Student Environmental Task Force. Shannon Parry provided a copy of the LUCE
update to Task Force members. Al Rosen
gave an update on Solar Santa Monica which included information about the RFP
process and the kick off event.

and Recommendations Regarding Future Sustainability Presentations and Agenda
Items
There was no discussion regarding future
sustainability presentations and agenda items.
Discussion
and Recommendations Regarding Community Calendar
After discussion, Shannon Parry agreed to compile a
monthly sustainability calendar. Task Force members agreed to forward interesting
and appropriate events to staff for dissemination.
Public
Input on Non-Agendized Items
There was no public input on
non agendized items.
Comments
and Announcements
Shannon Parry announced the Sustainable Cinema series
at the Santa Monica Public Library as well as the newly established Santa
Monica Green Prize for Sustainable Literature.
