meeting was convened at 7:20pm.
Public Input on Agenda Items
Louisa
Fish commented on the voter participation indictor in the Sustainable City Plan.
Approval of Minutes from the September
11, 2006 meeting
Dennis
Woods moved to approve the minutes. Leonard Mitchell seconded the motion which
was approved by a vote of 5 to 0. Genevieve Bertone abstained.
Presentation and Discussion Regarding Sustainable
Concepts at Santa Monica Place
Robert
Aptaker and Robyn Young from the Macerich Company presented conceptual plans
for Santa Monica Place. The conceptual plan elements include 1) Reasonable
Scale, 2) Better Connection, 3) Open Air and Views, 4) Eco Friendly, 5) Retail Focused,
and 6) Attention to Traffic and Parking.
No action was taken as the
presentation was not specific to the Sustainable City Plan.
Discussion and Recommendations Regarding
City 101
Shannon
Parry introduced the item and provided a general overview of available city
resources. The Task Force requested this
be an ongoing agenda item.
Discussion and Recommendations
Regarding SCP Staff Report to Council
Jim
Ries introduced the item. The
Sustainable City Plan Staff Report is scheduled to be presented to Council at
the October 10, 2006 Council meeting. The Staff Report includes the SCP-IP as
well as recommendations by staff and the Task Force on the Environment.
The
Task Force requested an update on the Community Sustainability Liaison and Dean
Kubani gave the update. Genevieve Bertone left the room to avoid possible
conflict of interest.
Subcommittee meetings
The
Resource Conservation, Environmental and Public Health and Economic Development
subcommittees met to discuss their respective work plans.
Presentation, Discussion and
Recommendations Regarding Subcommittee Work Plans
The
Resource Conservation, Environmental and Public Health and Economic Development
subcommittees continue to develop their work plans.
Setting of Agenda for November 13, 2006

Woods made the following motion which was seconded by Leonard Mitchell and
passed unanimously.
Motion

The
Sustainable City Task Force requests that the Chair and Vice Chair work with
staff to develop the monthly meeting agenda.
Jim
Ries and Laura Berland Shane agreed to accept this responsibility, but asked
that the Task Force continue to give input into agenda topics. The Task Force agreed and asked that future
meeting agendas include discussion of the RFP’s for the Community
Sustainability Liaison and the Sustainable Economic Development Strategy as
well as review of the Santa Monica College Environmental Audit.
Public Input on Non-Agendized Items
Louisa
Fish commented on the need to update the alternative transportation information
included in the Sustainable City Task Force meeting announcements.
She
also recommended that the City develop a list of alternative transportation
routes for all city meeting facilities. Dean
Kubani asked Louisa Fish to generate a list that could be used to develop this
resource for the community. Louisa Fish agreed.
Comments and Announcements
Genevieve
Bertone announced the Green Business Certification launch on October 25th
at the Library Alehouse.
