Our Mission
The mission of the Department of Public Works is to protect and enrich the quality of life in the City through the sustainable management of water resources and recoverable material resources; to facilitate cost-effective services; to enhance the public works infrastructure, the Cemetery, and city streets; and to provide architectural, engineering, and project management services for construction of new facilities and renovation of existing facilities.

The Department provides essential services to the community that includes water supply production, treatment & collection; wastewater and storm water collection; and collection & proper management of recoverable material resources including recycling of solid materials and household hazardous materials. The department also provides plan check, permit & inspection services of public works infrastructure improvements within public right-of-way as well as engineering & architecture services, floodplain & urban water runoff management, street maintenance and services related to the operation and maintenance of Woodlawn Cemetery. The department also oversees the design and construction of City capital projects including buildings, parks, streets, water & wastewater systems and various other public infrastructure improvements.
