Municipal Law

The Municipal Law Division drafts local laws and defends lawsuits about them. It provides a broad range of advisory and transactional services for the City and represents the City in civil cases involving planning and land use, housing, environmental issues and contract and business disputes.

The division also works to secure compliance with a wide range of code, permitting and licensing laws which help protect the quality of life in Santa Monica. If you have a question about code compliance or nuisance abatement, contact Building and Safety at (310) 458-8355.

If you have a question about planning and zoning, contact Planning and Community Development at (310) 458-8341. For information about Business Licenses, call (310) 458-8745.
