The Santa Monica Animal Shelter
uses volunteers to help in feeding the dogs, cats, rabbits, and to assist in maintaining the cages, horse stalls, and corrals. Volunteers also file licenses and lost pet cards along with other administrative activities.

The Community Programs Division offers a number of classes for all ages. These classes range in topic from fitness to art to languages. Volunteers assist
in registration of participants for classes and
with coordination of mailings and outreach efforts.

A great opportunity to be outdoors and provide information to the public about the Farmers'
Market. Volunteers help staff the info table and interact with the farmers, answer questions, collect food stamps, and more. There is also a School Salad Bar lunch program that relies on volunteers to prepare fresh produce for the salad bar.

Volunteers assist in the administrative operations of the Fire Department and are also members of the emergency operations teams: EVAC and DCS.

Weekends
There are many ways of helping out in the Police Department. Positions range from front office clerk to face painting at youth fairs on the weekends. Most positions require fingerprinting due to confidentiality issues.
Participation in the Citizen's
Police Academy is highly
recommended. |

There is a volunteer Graphic Design Team which develops brochures, posters, fliers, web sites and other marketing materials.

CITIZEN ACTIVITIES |
Weekdays and Weekends
The Senior Recreation Center sponsors events year-round for the senior community, including monthly dances, movies and special outings. Volunteers are needed to help organize the activities at the center, run the snack cart, Open Houses, and more.

NUTRITION PROGRAM |

Subsidized lunches are offered for seniors at various parks and community centers throughout the city. This program relies on volunteers to organize and serve the lunches daily. This is an excellent opportunity to reach out to the senior community.

OLYMPICS |
| Westside Special Olympics is a non-profit, community-based organization whose mission is to contribute to the physical, social and psychological development of people with mental retardation through athletic experiences. Volunteers are very special people who give their time, energy, effort and heart to bring smiles to our athletes faces.
