Long before
skateparks or X Games, Santa Monica was home to a cultural revolution.
Recognized
as the birthplace of modern skateboarding, it was in the Dogtown area of
Santa Monica where a group of surfers transformed skating from sidewalk
surfing into the extreme sport it is today.
The Cove,
located in the heart of Santa Monica at
14th Street & Olympic Blvd, is a
state of the art, 20,000-sq ft concrete facility complete with ramps, bowls,
stairs, a pool with tile coping, an over-vert bowl and the Douglas Park rail
- made famous through appearances in many skateboarding videos throughout
the 1990s. BMX bikers and in-line skaters are
also welcome to use the park (check the schedule for designated hours).
Everyone
entering The Cove is required to wear protective gear and complete a
registration form and waiver annually. Spectators are welcome to watch from
outside the fence.
