Introductory Statement

The City of Santa Monica Commission on Older Americans and the UCLA Center on Aging are pleased to present the second edition of the Senior Resource Directory.  The 1999-2000 edition, like the well received first edition, is a listing of local resources for older adults and caregivers.  The Directory includes a multitude of diverse services in the area as defined by the Pacific Ocean, Fairfax Avenue, Mulholland Drive, and Jefferson Boulevard.

Established in 1991, the UCLA Center on Aging's mission is to enhance and extend productive and healthy life through research and education on aging.  Then Center builds upon the UCLA geriatrics program that is rated number one in the country.  Its goals are to bring together foremost specialists in the field of aging for interdisciplinary research and education efforts;  expand research initiatives; develop a degree-granting program and postdoctoral research training; and promote community education and life-long learning.

The City of Santa Monica Commission on Older Americans was established in 1978 to act in an advisory capacity to the City Council and City Management on matters pertaining to the elderly. The Commission is interested in promoting a higher quality of life to the older adult population of Santa Monica. Examples of issues that are frequently addressed include housing, transportation, information and referral, and senior safety.

We thank the many individuals, organizations, and foundations that assisted in the production of the 1999-2000 Senior Resource Directory.  In addition, we would like to express our appreciation to the agencies and resources listed for their interest and commitment to this program.

The contents of this directory should not be interpreted as all inclusive, a recommendation or an endorsement.  Readers are urged to verify all information.  Every effort has been made to present current information; however, there may be omissions and errors for which we apologize. Please send your comments and corrections to Commission on Older Americans, Community & Senior Programs Division, 1527 4th Street, Room 106, Santa Monica, CA 90401; fax (310)395-9683.

We hope the 1999-2000 Senior Resource Directory is a valuable resource to individuals and the community.
