REGULAR MEETING OF THE SOCIAL SERVICES COMMISSION

Notice is hereby given that a regular meeting of the Social Services Commission will be held on Monday, June 27, 2005 beginning at 7:00 p.m. to discuss the following business:

 

 

1.      Call to Order

 

2.      Roll Call

 

3.      Approval of Minutes

4.      Public Input: Public comment is permitted only on items not on the agenda that are within the subject matter jurisdiction of the body.  A chit should be completed indicating items for public input.

 

5.   Committee Reports: Discussion of and possible action on committee recommendations and action steps including the possible dissolution or consolidation of existing committees.

 

  1. Older Youth Issues and Needs:  Access to and availability of social services for youth ages 16-24.

 

  1. Violence (Interpersonal/Community):  Impact of violence on the Santa Monica community as a whole with emphasis on under-represented neighborhoods.

 

  1. New Approaches to Addressing Homelessness:  City strategies in addressing homelessness, including a review of staff recommendations to the City Council.

 

6.  Old Business

 

A.     City of Santa Monica Homeless Secretary:  Discussion and possible action on City Council’s action regarding the appointment of a Homeless Secretary.

 

B.    FY 2004-05 Social Services Commission Budget:  Discussion of and possible action on the remainder of the budget for the year.

 

7.  New Business

 

A.             SSC Vice Chair Appointment:  Discussion of and possible action on the appointment of a Commission Vice-Chair for FY 2005-06.

 

B.             Commission Vacancies:  Discussion of and possible action on filling upcoming commission seat vacancies. At this time the Commission will hear from interested applicants.

 

C.             Social Services Commission Retreat:  Discussion of and possible action on the location, time and content of the Social Services Commission’s annual retreat.

 

D.             211:  Report by City staff on the inclusion of INFO LINE LA in the National 211 Initiative.

 

E.             Update on passage of FY 2005-06 Budget: Report by City staff on the implications for social service and homeless programs.

 

F.              Update on the Chronic Homeless Pilot:  Report by City staff on first year progress and potential expansion for FY2006-07.
