Notice is hereby given that a regular meeting of the Social Services Commission will be held on Monday, May 23, 2005 beginning at 7:00 p.m. to discuss the following business:

 

 

1.      Call to Order

 

2.      Roll Call

 

3.      Approval of Minutes

4.      Public Input: Public comment is permitted only on items not on the agenda that are within the subject matter jurisdiction of the body. A chit should be completed indicating items for public input.

 

5.   Committee Reports: Discussion of and possible action on committee recommendations and action steps including the possible dissolution or consolidation of existing committees.

 

  1. Older Youth Issues and Needs: Access to and availability of social services for youth ages 16-24.

 

  1. Violence (Interpersonal/Community): Impact of violence on the Santa Monica community as a whole with emphasis on under-represented neighborhoods.

 

  1. New Approaches to Addressing Homelessness: City strategies in addressing homelessness, including a review of staff recommendations to the City Council.

 

6.  Old Business

 

A.     Discussion and possible action on City Council’s action regarding the appointment of a Homeless Secretary.

 

B.     Report by Commissioner Lee on the May 5, 2005 Leadership Recruitment Event at the Ken Edwards Center.

 

C.    FY 2004-05 Social Services Commission Budget: Discussion of and possible action on the remainder of the budget for the year.

 

7.  New Business

 

A.             Discussion and possible action on update by Stacy Rowe, Human Services Administrator, regarding the 2005-2010 Consolidated Plan.

 

B.             FY 2005-06 City Budget: Discussion of and possible action on the FY 2005-06 budget hearing scheduled for the June 21, 2005 City Council meeting.

 

C.             Discussion of and possible action on a letter to the City Council regarding Council Liaison appointments to the Commission.

 

D.             Free Your Mind Mental Health Awareness Event:  Report by Commissioner Gunn on the current status of the Free Your Mind Mental Health Awareness Event.

 

E.             Discussion of and possible action on the appointment of a new Commission Chair and Vice-Chair for FY 2005-06.

 

F.              Discussion of and possible action on filling upcoming commission seat vacancies.

 

G.             Discussion of and possible action on the Social Service Commission’s annual retreat.
