Colorado Esplanade

Project Information

Construction of the Esplanade, along Colorado Avenue from the new Expo Light Rail station at 4th Street to Ocean Avenue will begin on Monday, March 16th. On March 26, 2015 the eastbound lanes on Colorado Avenue between 4th Street and Ocean Avenue will close permanently, leaving westbound traffic only.

Ocean Avenue and 4th Street will remain open to traffic, as well as the westbound lanes along Colorado Avenue, but drivers are asked to use Broadway and Olympic boulevards for eastbound trips.

Businesses will remain open during construction.

A newly designed promenade will be created connecting the Expo Light Rail station to Ocean Avenue, the Pier, and the Palisades Garden Walk park. The reconfigured roadway will expand bicycle and pedestrian facilities and increase landscaping and public art to create a visual and functional focal point between the Downtown and Civic Center.
