Santa Monica, California – Santa Monica Public Library presents Pursuing Perfection: How Far Is Too Far? on Saturday, February 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Main Library’s Multipurpose Room, 601 Santa Monica Boulevard.

Medical advances have led to medical enhancements for every stage of our lives. We can design the “perfect” baby, enhance athletic performance, reverse signs of aging and lose weight without dieting. But should we constantly pursue perfection? When does medical technology go too far and how do we distinguish between hype and hope? Join the Center for Humane and Ethical Care for an in-depth discussion of these issues at this free community forum.

Topics and panelists include:
• Medical Enhancement not Eugenics – with Neil Wenger, MD, MPH, UCLA Geriatrician and Chair of UCLA Ethics Committee
• Designing Perfect Babies – with Judith Daar, JD, Associate Dean at Whittier Law School
• Raging Hormones: Teens to Seniors – with Stanley Korenman, MD, UCLA Endocrinologist and Dean of Research Ethics at UCLA
• Is ‘Enhancement’ Medical Care? – with James A. Hynds, PhD, UCLA Ethicist, Theologian, Legal Scholar
• Moderated by Andrea Stein, MD, Gynecologist and Reproductive Ethicist

This program is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and on a first arrival basis. The Santa Monica Public Library is wheelchair accessible. For special disabled services, call Library Administration at (310) 458-8606 at least one week prior to event.
