Santa Monica, California – Join us on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 3:00 p.m., as we continue the season of Saturdays with LA Opera, featuring a multimedia talk on Giuseppe Verdi’s dramatic opera Simon Boccanegra. These talks are presented by LA Opera Community Educators and allow you to learn about the operas before attending them. The talks take place in the Main Library’s Multipurpose Room, 601 Santa Monica Blvd.
Simon Boccanegra is a grand-scale study of power and treachery that finds an emotional center in the tender and unbreakable bond between father and daughter. Verdi's poignant score brings his characters to vivid life in a series of striking encounters that spans two generations.
The season continues February 18, 2012 with a talk about the coming of age comic opera Albert Herring. On April 21 the classic, La Bohème will be discussed. The 2011/2012 series will close on Saturday, June 16, at 3:00 p.m. with a Grand Finale event, LA Opera Artists in concert singing some of opera’s greatest hits. The concert will take place in the Main Library’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Auditorium, 601 Santa Monica Blvd.
These programs are free and all ages are welcome. Space is limited and on a first-arrival basis. This is an event of The Living Room …a place for adults program series.
