David P Amy R  Brendan Hines
David Poe Amy Raasch Brendan Hines

Program

Three great singer/songwriters perform songs of love, loss, and the perfect sandwich. Back by popular demand, Poe and Raasch wowed audiences at last year's Fireside program. They are joined by Hines, a fabulous, idiosyncratic songwriter with a fantastic new collection of songs hot off the press!

Artists

David Poe was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and raised in Dayton, Ohio. His eponymous 1997 debut was produced by T-Bone Burnett and received four stars from Rolling Stone, who said Poe "gives the singer-songwriter genre a much-needed jolt." It was followed by a string of albums, a concert DVD, and extensive touring with artists such as Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Tori Amos. His most recent release was the dance score Shadowland: Music for Pilobolus in 2010. In addition to his music for live performance (which also includes The Copier for Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet), he has been scoring for film since 2007. As a songwriter, he is known for clever wordplay ("You're The Bomb," "Moon," "Reunion," "Wilderness," "Love Is Red") and for adventurous arrangements which combine unusual orchestration, classic rock and acoustic music ("The Late Song (Je Ne Suis Pas Mort)", "Gun For A Mouth," "Not Enough Night."). His songs have been featured in numerous films and television shows, including Transamerica, Duane Hopwood, Jesus Henry Christ, The O.C. and Dawson's Creek.  Poe has produced recordings, written songs for, and toured with artists including  T-Bone Burnett, Tori Amos, Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, The Jayhawks, Gary Jules, Suzie Katayama, Beth Orton, Marc Ribot, Ron Sexsmith, Jane Siberry, Duncan Sheik, Regina Spektor, and They Might Be Giants. myspace.com/davidpoe

Amy Raasch is a songwriter, performing musician and actor based in Los Angeles. Her first album, Love or Inertia, was released in 2007. "Raasch has an actor’s focus on the tiny movements of the soul," wrote Next Big Thing. Music Connection called her "one of the top unsigned artists in Los Angeles" and "Missing," a song from that project, won the G.I.N.A. Singer/Songwriter Contest. Amy followed with 52 Songs in 52 Weeks , an episodic collection of live performances of songs-in-progress. She is currently recording a new collection of songs entitled Girls Get Cold.  She has also appeared in several productions for theater and feature films, including a role as a folk singer in the indie movie the four corners of nowhere , which first inspired her to pick up a guitar. Screen projects for 2012 release include Danger Girl, The Saboteur, and music videos for In Paris, It’s Already Evening and songs from Girls Get Cold. amyraasch.com

Brendan Hines is a singer/songwriter/actor/guitar player who was raised in Baltimore, Md. to a former nun and a former priest who fled God and Brooklyn to marry and teach Philosophy. As an actor, he is primarily known for his work as Eli Loker on the television program Lie To Me. Three seasons of steady work on this show helped Mr. Hines support his dangerous habit of writing, recording, and performing original songs under the ineffective pseudonym The Brendan Hines. Hines’ writing is heavily influenced by the two cities he knows best: New York and Los Angeles. But if these towns are primarily known as epicenters of wealth, fame, and escape, the denizens in Hines’ songs meet at street level and are primarily interested in escaping into bottles or beds. The music is folk of a sort. The sort of folk that you require to get you through a bad hangover or a broken heart; or into a binge or an unwise encounter. His songs are cautionary tales, post-love autopsies, wise-ass seductions, and ruminations on bad behavior delivered with candid whimsy, gallows humor and mercilessly satisfying rhymes. Since 2003, Hines has performed regularly at the Hotel Cafe, the preeminent venue for serious singer/songwriters in Los Angeles. His first album, a jaunty collection of ten original songs entitled Good For You Know Who, was released in 2007. His most popular song, “Miss New York“, was featured in the 2010 Sundance Audience Award-winning independent film Happythankyoumoreplease. thebrendanhines.com
