Water Shortage & Response

Lake Oroville, above, and other reservoirs are a major source of our water.
 
They are being depleted.

• Santa Monica will continue to import 88% of its water until our groundwater treatment plant is completed in late 2010.
• Our imported water comes from the State Water Project (SWP) in Northern California, where a 3-year drought continues.
• SWP supplies have been further limited due to court orders.
• Reservoirs are approaching critically low levels.
• Many existing plumbing fixtures and irrigation systems are inefficient and wasting water.

The City of Santa Monica is asking everyone to KEEP SAVING
 
and reduce water use by 10% immediately.
