Home Composting
A great way to keep growing conditions in your lawn up to scratch is to take advantage of materials that almost every household produces. Composting is a simple way to utilize your food scraps for the benefit of your soil, and in the process keep them out of landfills and lessen the environmental impact of hauling that waste. The Santa Monica Public Works website has all the details on home composting.
Mulching
After planting apply 2-3” layer of organic wood
chip mulch. This will conserve soil moisture, maintain cooler soil
temperatures, inhibit weed development, and gradually decompose and enrich the
soil. |
