City Hosts LEED Platinum Homes Open House

On March 20th, 2010, the Santa Monica Green Building Program hosted a tour of most of the City's LEED Platinum certified homes.  There are 6 such homes in the city and 5 opened their doors to show off the green strategies that were incorporated into these great designs.   Download the event summary here.

The homes were all in various stages of construction.  Attendees could tour the home and the architects and/or owners were on hand to answer questions about the building. Here, Elliot Reinfeld from the Punchouse team shows off the drain water heat exchanger that harvests energy from hot shower water going down the drain. LEEDPlatinum1
Local Architect Kyle Moss explains how he reused most of his existing home in a gut renovation project.  His new home uses approximately 75% less energy than a home built to code LEEDPlatinum2
Architect Erik Peterson from Claremont Environmental Design Group talks about his project.  This home used an Apex block structural design.  The Apex product combines concrete and styrofoam to provide structural, insulating, and thermal mass properties all in one material.  This home is 77.5% more efficient than Title 24 energy code requires! The Emerging Green Builders group of the USGBC-Los Angeles helped to make this event a great success.  To be notified about upcoming events, please email brenden.mceneaney@smgov.net .
