Preparedness for Pets
Anyone that has a pet knows they're part of the family, and just like yourself and your human family members, pets need a disaster plan. Make sure you have seven days' worth of food, water and supplies for your pet.
One of the most important things you can do for your pet to be prepared for disasters is to get them microchipped. In the event of an emergency, if pets are separated from their families, responders do not have the resources to care for and re-unify pets and their families. By microchipping your pet and having the chip activated, your pet may be easily identified in an emergency. Microchipping is offered by most veterinarians. The City of Santa Monica hosts an annual Pet Emergency Preparedness Fair, where free microchipping is provided. For information on the Pet Emergency Preparedness Fair, please contact (310) 458-2263.
