Santa Monica – Public
beach restrooms are a much-needed amenity for the millions of annual visitors
to Santa Monica State Beach. In response, the City of Santa Monica is replacing
8 of its beach restroom facilities, presenting a unique opportunity to think
about the concept of public beach restrooms and whether or not they’re meeting
our needs. Are there features that could be incorporated that would improve the
visitor experience?
The public is invited to ponder
this question, review preliminary ideas and give input at a Community Open
House on Beach Restroom Design this Sunday, September 27, from 1 – 3 pm, at
Beach Green (2400 Barnard Way).
The City’s project team is
working with Roesling Nakamura Terada Architects, Inc. to design a network of
beach restroom facilities that become visitor-serving rest stops along
the popular beach bike path.
Walk, bike or skate over to the
Open House at Beach Green, 2400 Barnard Way, just off the bike path and north
of Ocean Park Blvd. Fee-based parking is available in Beach Lot 4S (enter at
2030 Barnard Way), or at meters along Barnard Way. To request a
disability-related accommodation, please call 310-458-8310 at least 3 business
days in advance.
